FAQ

FAQ

Q: How do you fix damages to the surface of bathtubs?

A: We basically use the same techniques as auto body work, except we only use materials designed specifically for acrylic and metal bathtubs (and showers). Most repairs take approximately one to three hours to repair, depending on the severity of the damages.

Q: How long have you been doing this?

A: We have been in the bathtub/shower surface repair business since 2000, and we progressed to include refinishing bathtubs and showers in 2011.

Q: Do you have a showroom?

A: We do not have a showroom, as we only do the work on-site at your location. We can always provide a list of references from various past customers.

Q: How much will it cost?

A: The price of repairs varies somewhat, depending on what needs to be done, your location and what options you choose. We provide free estimates anytime by phone, email or even in person.

Q: Is there noise and smells during the process?

A: Yes, but everything is localized to the bathroom. The smell usually dissipates after an hour or two for small repairs, but for larger refinishes, smells can take up to a day to go away. We use our own ventilator units to minimize smells, overspray and V.O.Cs.

Q: How long do we have to wait until we can use the tub/shower after repairs?

A: After a small repair, 24 hours is sufficient before touching or water use. For refinishes, we recommend 48 hours in order to get a proper cure.

Q: Do you repair cracked bottoms, where there are water leaks?

A: We can repair most cracks and damages, but if you have a water leak due to structural damages (in the bottom of the bathtub or shower), a repair could be very temporary, especially if the surface area is soft and has movement. Cracks can be repaired, but if the tub/shower is cracked where people stand or apply heavy enough pressure and there is movement, the crack can reappear or new ones can start. We primarily specialize in cosmetic repairs.

Q: What is your glaze coating made of?

A: We only use our exclusive white gel coat from Armour Protective Coatings. It is a glassed acrylic modified resin polymer.

Q: How does the refinishing process work?

A: The bathtub or shower is fully cleaned, sanded and acid-etched, then prepped for our spray gel coat. The silicone is removed and new silicone is applied after the tub is dry (if needed). We cover the bathroom and surrounding area to protect from overspray. We apply two layers of primer (one clear and one white), then we apply two layers of our exclusive white top coat. We also incorporate a Skid Tex® floor texture for anti-slip (optional), and a layer of clear gel (also optional at an additional cost). The whole process can take between 4 and 6 hours. Please note that there is an additional cost when a tub has been painted or sprayed before, as we need to completely strip away the previous coating.

Q: How long does this new (refinished) glaze last?

A: When following the care guidelines, the coating can last from 15 to 20 years.

Q: How do I take care of my tub after it’s been repaired or refinished?

A: The best way to care for your tub is to use non-abrasive liquid cleaners and non-abrasive cloths/sponges. It’s also best to wipe any remaining water puddles away after use.

Q: Do I need to do anything before the technician arrives?

A: For small repairs, you’ll just need to clear the area of the tub that is damaged (removing toys, soaps, etc.). For complete refinishes, we ask that you remove all personal items and shower curtains from the bathroom area. Shower doors should also be removed, unless otherwise arranged with our company. Ensure the drain is not clogged, and that there are no leaky faucets. If possible, leaky faucets should be fixed prior to refinishing.

Q: Should I replace my tub because it is damaged with chips and scratches?

A: Instead of doing a costly replacement, we can repair your damaged tub or you can choose to have it refinished.

Q: My tub is another colour, can you refinish it in white?

A: Yes. White is the most popular colour that customers request, but we can refinish your tub in just about any colour you can think of.

Q: Why shouldn't I just buy a new bathtub or change my tile?

A: The cost of refinishing is considerably less than the cost of replacing plumbing fixtures, tile walls, wallboard, pipes, tile floors and sub-flooring, all of which can be damaged during the removal of your bathtub. With our refinishing process, you can reduce the cost and time of remodelling significantly.

Q: What is slip protection (Skid Tex®)?

A: We can apply slip protection in any colour or in undetectable finishes. It’s great for homes, motel/hotel rentals, institutions, seniors, and anywhere a tub or shower exists. Slip protection eliminates the need for mats that collect mildew, and reduces the possibility of slipping because you leaned the wrong way.
